New Indiana and North Carolina facilities to boost jobs and excavator production

John Deere has announced plans to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint by opening two new facilities that will strengthen domestic production and create hundreds of new jobs. The projects include a modern distribution center in Indiana and a new excavator manufacturing plant in North Carolina, both expected to open within the next year.

"Our investment in these new facilities underscores John Deere's dedication to strengthening the backbone of American industry and supporting local economies,” said John May, chairman and chief executive officer of John Deere. “We believe in building America, and these projects represent our intent to continue driving innovation and job creation in the United States."

The company recently broke ground on a state-of-the-art distribution center near Hebron, Indiana. This new facility is designed to improve supply chain efficiency and ensure faster delivery of equipment and parts across the country. The Indiana Center is expected to create around 150 jobs and support customers in agriculture, construction, forestry, mining, and turf industries. Indiana was selected due to its strong workforce and central location, which supports nationwide distribution needs.

John Deere will continue operating its primary North American Parts Distribution Center in Milan, Illinois. The Milan facility has been active since 1973 and currently employs about 1,200 people, playing a key role in customer support and parts availability.

“This new facility is an investment in customer expectations around world class product support through parts availability for our US based ag, turf, construction, forestry, mining and turf customers,” said Denver Caldwell, vice president, Aftermarket and Customer Support. "Indiana's strong workforce and central location make it an ideal choice for expansion.”

In addition to the Indiana expansion, John Deere is investing $70 million in a new excavator factory in Kernersville, North Carolina. This advanced facility will manufacture future-generation excavators for the construction market. Production that was previously handled overseas will now take place in the United States, reinforcing the company’s commitment to domestic manufacturing.

The North Carolina factory is expected to employ more than 150 people and will use advanced technology to meet growing equipment demand. This move positions John Deere as a leading producer of excavators in the U.S.

"We are excited to bring this new facility to our Kernersville campus and to be part of the region’s thriving manufacturing community," said Ryan Campbell, president Worldwide Construction and Forestry and Power Systems. “Our focus will be on delivering excellence, creating jobs, and advancing the legacy of John Deere in American manufacturing.”

Together, these investments support local economies, create quality jobs, and reflect John Deere’s long-term plan to invest $20 billion in U.S. manufacturing over the next decade. The expansion highlights the company’s continued focus on innovation, quality, and economic growth across American communities.
