A new beef program has been created in partnership with the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) thanks to Beef Farmers of Ontario (BFO).

BFO wrote a cheque for $40,000 to OAFB, which will go towards purchasing fresh beef products that will provide approximately 28,000 servings of ground beef to families in need. The program will help fill the growing need for protein, an item that food banks have identified as an area that it currently lacks.

The OAFB calls the donation generous and adds that the funds will help provide nutritious protein for families, especially children in need. The province’s food banks say that it is working hard to form new partnerships with farmers, including with groups like BFO to address gaps in the system.

Bob Gordanier, president of BFO says the program allows beef farmers to be part of the solution to help address hunger facing Ontario families.  BFO represents the province’s 19,000 beef farmers.
