9 Urban Legends Connected to Ag

The Nine Maidens of Dundee

The Nine Maidens of Dundee

This Scottish urban legend centers around a farmer and his nine daughters.

When the farmer’s eldest daughter didn’t come back from the well, he sent his second oldest daughter. One by one, he sent all his children to the well but they never returned.

When he went to investigate, the farmer discovered a snake-like dragon creature had killed his daughters.

The farmer gathered other locals to slay the beast. A young man named Martin delivered the lethal blows while the locals yelled “Strike, Martin!”

The place where the monster fell was named Strike-Martin, and then Strathmartine.

If you walk down Dundee’s High Street, you’ll see a statue of the dragon.
