9 Places Named After Food

Burnt Corn, Ala.

Burnt Corn, Ala.

How this unincorporated Alabama community received its name is up for debate.

Some individuals believe settlers named the town after they saw piles of toasted corn left by Creek Native Americans (also known as the Muskogee).

Other people say the town got its name from the burning of corn fields as part of the scorched earth policies during the Creek War, which occurred between 1813 and 1814.
