Crocodile Farm

Crocodile Farm

Some farmers in Australia and Kenya have tried their hand at crocodile farming.

In Kenya, for example, Colling Mueke raises more than 3,000 Nile crocodiles on his 300-acre farm. Each croc can grow up to 16 feet (five metres) in length and weigh up to 1,600 pounds (725 kilograms).

Some of the farm’s employees are tasked with climbing into crocodile enclosures to pick the right ones for processing or collect eggs for hatching.

Crocodiles are sold for their meat and skins.

Meat from one animal can be worth up to 7,000 Kenyan shillings (US$68), and the hides can be sold for up to 2,500 Kenyan shilling or around US$25 each, Mueke told BBC in Sept. 2016.
