Moose Milk

Moose Milk

A farm in Kostroma, Russia milks moose.

The milk from the large-antlered creatures has more butterfat than cow’s milk, and practitioners of traditional medicine believe the milk’s high levels of zinc, selenium and iron can heal some gastrointestinal issues.

The moose on the Russian farm are semi-domesticated.

The animals graze in the forests throughout the year and return in the summer when their calves are young. The moose are milked twice a day, averaging a daily yield of a half-gallon, or nearly two litres.
