Employers must submit applications earlier than in previous years
Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2025 employer applications are now open. Employers must submit applications by December 19, 2024, a date earlier than in previous years.
The program supports youth employment by funding organizations to create summer job opportunities.
Non-profit organizations, public sector employers, and small businesses with fewer than 50 employees are eligible. Funded positions will begin in April 2025. Through CSJ, young people can earn money, gain experience, and build skills for future careers.
The Government of Canada has set national priorities for CSJ 2025. These include hiring youth from underrepresented groups, such as those with disabilities, Indigenous youth, and racialized communities. It also prioritizes jobs in sustainable industries such as many agriculture jobs, climate-related work, and housing construction.
In 2025, CSJ aims to create 70,000 jobs across Canada, contributing to a larger government initiative supporting 90,000 youth job placements through the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy.
Employers can apply through the Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) portal. Setting up a GCOS account provides access to multiple funding opportunities securely.
“With many youth struggling to break into the job market, the Canada Summer Jobs program couldn’t be more important. Not only does the program allow young people to earn money over the summer, it also offers youth entering the labour market their first taste of paid work, or a chance to gain real work experience in their chosen field of study, paving the way to a successful career.” said The Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth.
Past results are promising, with 92% of participants in 2023 reporting improved skills and confidence. Job listings for CSJ-funded roles will be posted on the Job Bank in April 2025.
