During World War II, British military veteran John Hind Farmer was part of the Special Operations Executive, an organization set out to conduct, espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance missions against the Germans. On June 21, 1945, a little over a month after the war ended, Farmer was awarded the Military Cross for his actions during the war. After the war, Farmer became a member of MI6, Britain's secret service (the same one James Bond is a part of) where he aided in a plot to try and assassinate Egypt's President Nasser.
