Makita has received five reports of lacerations, all occurring outside of the U.S.
The recall is for gun model numbers XPG01S1, XPG01SR1, and XPG01Z with various serial numbers.
These units dispense up to 5 oz. per minute on slower speeds, and up to 10 oz. per minute on higher settings.
The affected hoses are those with model numbers 191A79-9, 191A80-4, 191W59-7 and 191W58-9.
A recall on the same products in Canada occurred on March 28.
“When the grease gun is pumping grease and the hose is bent near the adapter; a hole can be created in the hose and it may burst near the adaptor end of the hose,” a Canadian government website says. “This may pose a laceration hazard to the operator.”
Anyone with an affected gun unit or hose is asked to stop using those tools immediately and contact Makita or a Factory Service Centre for replacement or repair.
