Brett Kissel grew up on a cattle ranch in Flat Lake, Alta., where the family raises Angus and Speckle Park-cross cattle.
He won the 2014 Juno award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, as well as awards from the Association of Country Music in Alberta and the Canadian Country Music Association.
Kissel now calls Nashville, Tenn., home, but is reminded of his time on the family farm.
“It was great to grow up feeling at one with the land and having farm animals around. I didn’t realize how lucky I was until I moved to America, where I live in the city,” he told Hello! in December 2017. “It’s the opposite of the slow way of life I grew up in. I miss it.”
