Only 238 Of These 1930s John Deere Orchard Tractors Built
Clarence Hermonson of Fountain Hills, Arizona shares the story of his 1935 John Deere Model AO or Orchard version of the Model A Tractor. The Model A was built from 1934 to 1952 until it was replaced by the Model 60. Only 248 of the unstyled model AO were produced with a 309 cubic-inch, 2-cylinder engine that could do about 30 horsepower. The orchard versions feature a downward exhaust, with shrouding over the air cleaner called “mushrooms,” and over the fuel caps called, “frogs.”
