Video: Tips for Scouting Corn Emergence

As crops start to emerge out of the ground, it’s important to begin scouting your fields to manage any issues that may arise before they affect your yield potential. In this video, Pioneer Field Agronomist Jonathan Rotz has some quick tips to help you know what to look for when you’re scouting after your crops have emerged. He recommends doing a stand measurement to compare to your planting population, to see how well your fields have emerged. He also shows you how to dig up plants and scout for underdeveloped plants, uneven spacing and any cold injury the crops may have sustained, and why these issues may occur. Scouting emergence is also a great time to evaluate planter performance, to take notes and observations for next year.
