Video: Getting ready to move to the feeder barn

Hog farmer Kenny, from the RM of Springfield, shows us how his pigs are ‘training’ in a grower room to move from the nursery to the finisher barn. These pigs are about 9-10 weeks old. Here in the grower barn, the pigs learn how to navigate through the gates between their resting area and the areas they can eat. And, boy, do they like to eat! In the grower barn, the pigs will usually consume about 1.5-2 kg (3.3-4.4 lb) of feed daily. When the pigs have learned to use the gates and have gained a little extra weight, they are then moved into a finisher barn to keep on growing.
