Research indicates that chopped switchgrass offers a new sustainable alternative bedding for dairy cows. It promotes cow comfort which increases milk production. The advantages of switchgrass bedding over other bedding materials include its softness which helps to prevent hock injuries to cattle, improved absorption and ammonia control, as well as low nitrogen content. Chopped switchgrass also works well for liquid manure handling.
