Soil microbiomes (diverse networks of small insects, bacteria and fungi) are critical components of healthily resilient soil. Using molecular tools, such as high-throughput sequencing, we can now measure how management practices alter this microbiome and how these changes impact long-term soil health. This presentation discusses how common Ontario farming practices such as rotation, nitrification inhibitors and biomass removal affect soil microbiome networks. Dr. Phillip's presentation was given at the 2019 Innovative Farmers of Ontario conference.
