Video: CFA and Telus Hosted Webinar - 5g connectivity: What does this mean for Canadian farmers?
Canadian Federation of Agriculture - Agriculture is in the midst of a digital revolution. As farmers, ranchers, and agri-food businesses
transition to digitized practices and management systems, the sector faces a range of opportunities to leverage new and innovative technologies to enhance the
sustainability and productivity of Canada’s agri-food industry.
As the next big innovation enabler, it’s estimated that 5G will add as much as $40 billion to
Canada’s GDP within five years, and another $500 billion in value could be added to the global gross domestic product if connectivity is successfully implemented in
the agriculture industry.
As we look ahead to a future with 5G, we can unlock the possibilities of data driven agriculture in which farmers, agronomists, and
scientists will have more information than ever to drive new, more precise methods of farming. We can also expect semi-autonomous to fully-autonomous farming
capabilities and farm operations vehicles, a multitude of sensor devices, augmented reality, and real-time decision making on-farm, based on data from those devices
– 5G can support all of that to help farmers produce more sustainably while increasing public trust.
