Crop report

Small grains and other field crops: Heavy rains have caused some lodging in grain fields. Grain crops continue to head out. Maturity on early crops has been slow because of the unstable weather conditions. Green chopping of forage crop should pick up in the latter part of the week. Corn-planting and hay-drying conditions remain poor because of the cooler wet weather.

Land preparation for cotton planting and other field crops will start to gain momentum toward the end of the week as the weather starts to warm up.

Deciduous tree fruits, nuts and grapes: Field activities have been halted by the rain during the early part of the week.

Early walnut varieties are in bloom. Thinning of early pluot and apricot varieties has slowed because of weather conditions. There were some isolated areas that had hail damage to early peaches, nectarines and plums.
