North America Leads Strong Week for Pork; Korea Drives Large Beef Sales
Pork exports for the week of Jan. 13-19 totaled 30,360 MT, down 2% from the previous week but 12% above the previous four-week average. Exports to Canada (2,610 MT, +66%) were the highest since September 2020, while exports also increased to Mexico (15,600 MT, +20%), China (4,500 MT, +21%), Colombia (1,430 MT, +25%), the Dominican Republic (820 MT, +6%), and Guatemala (150 MT, +40%). Exports trended lower to Japan (2,730 MT, -15%), South Korea (1,460 MT, -33%), Honduras (350 MT, -15%), Nicaragua (140 MT, -10%), Chile (120 MT, -13%), Australia (40 MT, -82%), Hong Kong (20 MT, -67%), Taiwan (20 MT, -7%) and Vietnam (1 MT, -96%). No exports were reported to the Philippines.
Pork net sales totaled 44,670 MT. Sales were positive for the third week following corrections to Mexico (17,710 MT and including decreases of 200 MT), China (12,520 MT, including decreases of 200 MT and the highest since September), Japan (3,740 MT and including decreases of 200 MT), Canada (2,770 MT and including decreases of 300 MT), Colombia (2,200 MT and including decreases of 100 MT), the Dominican Republic (1,470 MT), Korea (1,180 MT), Australia (990 MT), Honduras (580 MT), Guatemala (330 MT), Chile (200 MT), Taiwan (50 MT), and Hong Kong (30 MT). Sales were positive for the fourth week following corrections to Nicaragua (140 MT) and sales were positive for the second week following corrections to Vietnam (100 MT). Sales slowed to the Philippines (1 MT, -99%).
Beef exports totaled 15,590 MT, down 1% from the previous week but 8% above the previous four-week average. Exports were higher to Korea (4,520 MT, +20%), China (2,190 MT, +25%), Mexico (1,700 MT, +30%), Canada (730 MT, +2%), Guatemala (140 MT, +69%), and the Philippines (140 MT, +4%), but trended lower to Japan (4,240 MT, -5%), Taiwan (900 MT, -15%), Hong Kong (320 MT, -16%) and Indonesia (50 MT, -6%)
