Water Security Agency Holds Open House Events For Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Projects

Jul 27, 2021

The public is invited to take part in a couple of open house events this week to learn more about the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Projects.

The 10 year multi-project is expected to provide a major boost for the Province's agriculture sector.

Once completed, the Lake Diefenbaker Projects will provide over 500,000 acres of agricultural land in southern and central Saskatchewan with water.

Patrick Boyle, the Executive Director of Communications with the Water Security Agency, says they are holding a couple of open house events this week so that people have a better understanding of the work that is being planned and the impact it will have for the areas.

"Really, it's an awareness and information session. The project team will be there, and we'll have some boards, and it's a come and go style. So come, you know, 3 to 8 pm both days and if you can make it any of those times come when you can. And if you have a question, hopefully we have the answer."

He says they really wanted to start that conversation with the areas out there on the west side, and have that dialogue back and forth., and so it's kind of the first introduction into this whole project.

Boyle notes the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Projects includes three main projects.

"One is the Westside rehabilitation of what's already there for an existing canal system. Then the west side expansion, so further moving that canal system from the rehab, be North near
that Conquest, Delisle that area up there. And then the third one is the Qu'Appelle South Water Convenience project."

The Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Project Open House events run 3 til 8 pm Wednesday at the Community Centre in Delisle, and on Thursday at the Heritage Centre in Outlook.
