USDA Invests in Wildfire Prevention and Timber Transport from Forests
The USDA has announced $23 million in grants through its Forest Service’s Hazardous Fuels Transportation Program to help remove dangerous forest debris, such as fallen branches and dead trees. This step aims to reduce the risk of wildfires, improve forest health, and boost the timber industry.
This funding supports President’s directive to enhance domestic resource use and Secretary Rollins’ plan for more active management of national forests.
The program specifically targets low-value wood that is not suitable for construction but can still be turned into renewable products like energy, soil materials, or sustainable building materials.
"President Trump has directed his cabinet to unleash domestic production of our natural resources, including timber. Our nation is blessed with an abundance of resources and there is no reason we cannot responsibly harvest and use these products right here at home. Investments like these are delivering on our commitment to protect communities, make forests healthier and more resilient," said Secretary Rollins.
