Census Survey Responses Now Accepted Until April 18 2025

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended the deadline for growers to respond to the 2024 Census of Horticultural Specialties. Producers now have until April 18, 2025, to submit this important survey.

This census, managed by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), is crucial because it provides detailed data about US horticulture, including floriculture, nursery plants, specialty crops, and greenhouse-grown food products.

Conducted every five years, it offers essential insights into production methods, sales, and economic contributions from these agricultural sectors.

Growers are encouraged to respond online through the user-friendly portal at agcounts.usda.gov. The online survey helps producers save time by automatically calculating totals and skipping questions that do not apply. Alternatively, responses can also be submitted by mail.

NASS enumerators will continue to collect data directly, and respondents needing help or who no longer engage in horticultural production should call 888-424-7828 for assistance.

The census builds upon data from the 2022 Census of Agriculture, providing more specific details about horticultural operations, including product values, production expenses, and growing area size.

Responding to this census is required by federal law (Title 7 USC 2204(g) Public Law 105-113), but all personal data provided remains confidential and protected by the USDA.

"The Census of Horticultural Specialties provides critical insights for growers and industry leaders, guiding decisions that impact the entire agricultural community," according to USDA.

The results from the 2024 census will be available on December 16, 2025. Data can be accessed online at USDA’s official Census website nass.usda.gov/AgCensus or through the Quick Stats database quickstats.nass.usda.gov.

Growers' participation ensures comprehensive and reliable data that supports decision-making, influences agricultural policy, and helps secure resources and opportunities for the horticultural industry across the United States.
