USDA Collaborates with Partners to Combat Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza

Apr 18, 2023

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is committed to mitigating the impact of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) on the nation's poultry industry. To achieve this goal, the USDA is collaborating with industry stakeholders and other government agencies to prevent and control outbreaks of the disease.

One key component of the USDA's strategy is to enhance communication and collaboration with industry partners. The agency is working closely with poultry producers, veterinarians, and other stakeholders to share information and best practices for preventing and controlling the spread of HPAI.

The USDA is also partnering with other government agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to coordinate a comprehensive response to HPAI outbreaks. This collaboration includes sharing data and resources, conducting joint risk assessments, and developing response plans.

In addition to these partnerships, the USDA is investing in research and development to improve our understanding of HPAI and to develop better tools and strategies for controlling outbreaks. This includes funding for research on the disease's epidemiology, transmission, and control methods.

The USDA is taking a collaborative and proactive approach to preventing and controlling HPAI outbreaks. Through partnerships with industry stakeholders and other government agencies, and through investments in research and development, the agency is working to safeguard the nation's poultry industry and protect public health.
