USDA: 72% of Corn, 69% of Soybeans Rated Good to Excellent

Jul 18, 2018
The USDA's national condition ratings for corn and soybeans declined last week, but overall, both crops remain in generally good condition. Some key U.S. growing areas continued to see warm, dry weather, with an expansion of drought conditions in parts of the region, while other areas have seen the effects of too much rainfall.

As of Sunday, 72% of U.S. corn is rated good to excellent, down 3% on the week, and 63% of the crop is silking, compared to 37% both a year ago and on the five-year average.

69% of soybeans are in good to excellent shape, 2% less than last week, with 65% of the crop blooming and 26% at the pod setting stage, both faster than average.

80% of spring wheat is in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week, with 93% of the crop headed, compared to 85% typically this time of year.
