The RCMP have charged two people from Saskatchewan for trafficking cattle in that province as well as Alberta.
59 year old Monika Ribi and 59 year old Andre Ribi were charged following a five month investigation at a farm near Jansen Saskatchewan. As part of their investigation, a search back in June by RCMP in Lanigan, east of Saskatoon resulted in a "substantial recovery of cattle from both provinces." Alberta RCMP Livestock Investigations Section and members of the Livestock Services of Saskatchewan were involved in the investigation. They also claim that farmers and ranchers that were able to specifically identify the animals as missing and report them, were key to the investigation.
Both suspects are facing charges of theft, trafficking stolen cattle and fraudulently marking cattle. They'll appear in court in Humboldt on August 24th. RCMP remind producers that branding cattle is the best way to identify ownership.
