Tobacco, Beef And More Field Day Helps Area Producers Boost Business

Beef cattle and tobacco producers should make plans to attend the Tobacco, Beef and More Field Day hosted by the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA). The field day begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the UT Highland Rim AgResearch and Education Center.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the field day assembly area off Oakland Road. Early arrivers can meet with representatives from ag industry and UTIA in the trade show area before the first field tours begin at 8:45 a.m.

Beef Tours consist of presentations covering the outlook of the industry, warm season forage options and the effects of fetal programming on feedlot performance and carcass value. Plus, the Beef Tour will include a demonstration on working cattle through a chute and herd health considerations.

Tobacco Tours will feature variety updates for both dark and burley tobacco. There will also be presentations on burley sucker control, the effects of excessive heat when fire-curing, and the appropriate way to tank mix pesticides.

Additionally, visitors can choose to take an overview tour of the Highland Rim AgResearch Center. Learn about the Center’s history, the current research taking place, and the center’s important role in Tennessee agriculture.

The educational tours will conclude at approximately 12:30 p.m.  A complimentary lunch will be served following the last tour.
