Missouri Swine Health Symposium set for July 21

COLUMBIA, Mo.- University of Missouri Extension and the Missouri Pork Association are sponsoring the first ever Missouri Swine Health Symposium, July 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the MU Bradford Research Center.

The symposium takes the place of the MPA Swine Veterinarian Seminar. "We decided what needed to happen was to work together and have a bigger program," says MU Extension state swine specialist Tim Safranski. "It allows us to bring in bigger speakers and try to get some of the producers in with the veterinarians, because swine health is really a team effort."

State and national speakers will cover topics including disease action plans, antibiotic regulations, pork industry issues, reproductive management and market outlook.

The Missouri Veterinary Medical Association has approved the event for 5.5 continuing education credits for veterinarians.

"In addition to education, there are opportunities for interaction and discussion," Safranski says. "For the statewide Missouri swine herd to maintain health, we need this communication among all the parties in the industry."
