Sunflower producers can update their crop production expertise and learn about opportunities for sunflower cropping in 2015 at a meeting Dec. 19 in Dalhart, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service personnel.
Dr. Calvin Trostle, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agronomist in Lubbock, checks on a sunflower research plot in Moore County.
“We wanted to provide information to help West Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle sunflower producers make better crop management decisions,” said Mike Bragg, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Dallam and Hartley counties.
The update will begin at 11 a.m. in the small banquet room at Bar H Restaurant, 910 U.S. Highway 54, also known as 910 Liberal Ave. The program will conclude by 1:30 p.m. and a buffet lunch is available for purchase.
Registration is $10 and one Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit will be available, split between general and integrated pest management.
The program will include AgriLife Extension agronomy and insect updates as well as sunflower industry updates for oilseed and confectionary contract prices, hybrid seed and chemicals.
Presenters will be Dr. Calvin Trostle, AgriLife Extension state sunflower specialist and agronomist in Lubbock, and Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist in Amarillo.
