Bacon Maker Classic 2025 - Swine Competition for Youth

The Bacon Maker Classic (BMC) is set to take place on June 19, 2025, as part of the Ontario Pork Congress. This event provides young swine enthusiasts with an opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge in the industry.

Eligibility & Registration

  • Participants must be 9 to 21 years old as of January 1, 2025.
  • The registration deadline is April 11, 2025.

Competition Guidelines

The market hog weigh-off is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on June 19, 2025. Competitors are allowed to bring only one pig to the event.

Upon registration, participants will receive two numbered Allflex tags, which must be attached to their hog’s ear before arriving at the competition. Additionally, each pig must have a PigTrace tag in its ear. Any hogs missing these tags will be disqualified.

  • Allflex tags will be provided by the BMC committee via mail or personal delivery.
  • PigTrace tags will be sent by Ontario Pork.
  • A PigTrace Swine Movement Report must accompany the pig to the show.
  • Each hog will undergo weighing and probing on competition day.

Biosecurity Requirements

To ensure biosecurity, all locations housing competing hogs must conduct a PED/PDCoV rope test one week prior to the event. The results must be submitted to the BMC committee by June 16, 2025.
