We should see a return to hot dry weather this week.
That combined with the recent moisture sets the stage for crop development along with the potential for weed and disease growth.
"A big one right now, especially with winter wheat is going to be stripe rust," said Barb Ziesmann, Saskatchewan’s Plant Disease Specialist. "There have been reports in the northern states and the Swift Current, as well as the Saskatoon area. So, you should definitely be our scouting for that.
She notes farmers looking for stripe rust will see yellow pustules that are growing on the leaf parallel to the veins.
Last week’s Provincial Crop Report showed 81 % of the crop is in the ground, seeding is most advanced in the southwest at 90% complete. 87% is done in the southeast, the northwest at 84% and the west central region at 83% done.
