Pulse Canada Looking To Diversify Markets

Jan 31, 2020
Pulse Canada talked about the importance of the Chinese market at a meeting held in Portage la Prairie this week.

Mac Ross is the Director of Market Access and Trade Policy.

"In 2019, Canada exported more peas to China than we ever did to India," he commented. "That has been a real savior for the pulse industry with the virtual loss of India. We do know that we don't want to rest on our laurels and rest on this over reliance on one market like we did with India. Our market share in China, which currently is about 95 per cent for peas, will likely be at risk as they work to diversify their supply source. Just like we work to diversify our markets."

Pulse Canada has a goal of having 25 per cent of Canada's pulse production going to new markets/new uses by the year 2025.
