PRFN Announces Kickstarter Campaign for New Downtown Farmers’ Market

Peterborough, Ontario -

The Peterborough Regional Farmers Network (PRFN) annouces the launch of a Kickstarter Campaign to support the new Peterborough Regional Farmers’ Market which will open Saturday June 9 in the Citi Centre Courtyard located at 307 Aylmer St. N. The new Saturday Farmers’ market will be open from 7 am until 1 pm.

The theme for the campaign and the new market is “Local Dirt, Local Worth,” and contributors to the Kickstarter will receive unique gifts in recognition of their support, including buttons reading “I (heart) Local Dirt;” embroidered patches, decals, caps, t-shirts, and hoodies with the “Local Dirt, Local Worth” logo; and culminating in a harvest dinner experience at McLean Berry Farm in September for those who give at the highest tier. The campaign will run from Friday June 1 until Saturday June 30, and includes six giving tiers ranging from $10 to $500.

Erin McLean says “the dinner at our farm will be the highlight of the summer for our family and we will be so pleased to welcome the people who helped us to start the new market.”

The PRFN hopes to raise $15,000 to help cover the start-up costs of the new market which was first announced by the PRFN on May 11 after long-established vendors’ applications were denied for the market at Morrow Park on May 1.

The new Saturday morning farmers’ market will be administered according to established best practice guidelines. Each farmer will be third-party verified as selling products they’ve grown or raised. Shoppers can visit the market with confidence that they are supporting local farms. Artisans, prepared food vendors, and musicians will also contribute to a vibrant atmosphere focused on enhancing and celebrating a locally sustainable food ecosystem.
A link to the Kickstarter campaign page will be posted to the market website at https://www.ptboregionalfarmersmarket.org/. The “Local Dirt, Local Worth” merchandise associated with the campaign will be available for viewing at the market, and supporters will have the option to contribute directly to the campaign there as well.

The campaign will culminate in a celebration at the July 14 market where supporters will be able to collect their gifts.
