Premier Moe calls on Prime Minister Trudeau to get grain movement back on track

Mar 16, 2018

Premier Scott Moe is asking Ottawa to take action to get the grain trains running properly again.

Speaking at the SARM convention Friday in Regina, Moe says Canada’s reputation as a reliable grain supplier is being tarnished.

He adds farmers are facing financial difficulties because they can’t get their grain to market.

Moe urged Prime Minister Trudeau to set up an order in council mandating volume based deliveries and interswitching, to enable any rail company to move grain off another rail line.

He also wants tougher reciprocal penalties for the railways and shippers when there are grain movement bottlenecks.

Premier Moe also said there should be clearly outlined levels of rail service and new reporting requirements for the railways to track their performance so problems can be resolved quickly.
