It's been a good start to the potato growing season.
Vikram Bisht is with Manitoba Agriculture.
"Right now the seed pieces are doing fairly well. The sprouting has started on the potatoes. With this moisture that we are getting in some places, emerging plants should be doing good," he said. "Because of the rains that we just had, I think things are looking up now. The planting started around the 23rd of April which is normal for a planting date."
Bisht says potato planting finished up earlier this week.
He notes potatoes can handle colder temperatures, although some frost injury may happen around minus three or four degrees Celsius.
