Pork Leaders Meet Agri Ministers

Alberta Pork played an active role at the Calgary Stampede Agri-Business Reception on July 8, proudly representing the province’s pork producers at one of Alberta’s key agricultural events. Alberta Pork Chair Alastair Bratton and Executive Director Darcy Fitzgerald attended the event, joining Premier Danielle Smith, Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation Minister RJ Sigurdson, and Canada’s new Federal Agriculture Minister, Heath MacDonald.

The event brought together agricultural leaders from across Alberta to celebrate the achievements and resilience of the province’s agri-food sector. It also highlighted Canada’s important role as a leading net exporter of food, a status earned through the innovation, hard work, and dedication of producers like those in Alberta’s pork industry.

Alberta Pork’s participation at this event underscored its commitment to engaging with key leaders to support the future of pork production in the province. Through direct conversations with political leaders, Alberta Pork ensures that the needs and concerns of pork producers remain a priority in agricultural discussions.

Earlier that afternoon, Alberta Pork representatives also met with NDP members Naheed Nenshi, Heather Sweet, Janet Eremenko, and Court Ellingson. These meetings allowed Alberta Pork to share insights on the issues and priorities that matter most to pork producers in Alberta, ensuring that their voices are heard at both provincial and federal levels.

As Alberta Pork continues its work, events like the Calgary Stampede highlight the value of collaboration between producers, industry stakeholders, and government leaders. As shared by one attendee, “Success in agriculture comes from strong partnerships and open dialogue.”

With Alberta Pork’s ongoing leadership and advocacy, Alberta’s pork industry remains a vital part of the province’s economy and global agricultural reputation.
