Pioneer Awards $200,000 to Four Community Betterment Projects Selected by the Local Communities

Four Winners of the “Here’s to Hometowns” contest from Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada Each Receive $50,000 Grant to Support Community Projects

MISSISSAUGA, ON – Pioneer is pleased to announce the four winners of its inaugural “Here’s to Hometowns” contest for Eastern Canada.

Each winning community is awarded $50,000 to support their community projects.

The “Here’s to Hometowns” contest attracted close to 80 compelling entries from Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Entrants were asked to put together short videos detailing their hometowns, proposed community projects and how they would better their community with $50,000 from Pioneer.

Four finalists from Ontario and two finalists each from Quebec and Atlantic Canada were selected from the initial pool of entrants. Communities were then encouraged to vote online in support of their favourite projects.

After tallying the votes, Pioneer has named the following communities from each region winners of the “Here’s to Hometowns” contest:
  • Rocklyn, Ontario with ‘Granny Should Have Shown You’ – Rocklyn is upgrading a kitchen facility to continue facilitating workshops and providing learning opportunities from generation to generation;
  • Hickson, Ontario with ‘Here’s to Hickson’ – Hickson has five projects in their hometown between their local school, Lions Club, firefighters, Oxford Mental Health and the field of dreams to better their community;
  • Saint-Remi, Quebec with ‘Vents d’espoir’ – Vents d’espoir is building a multi-functional complex for people suffering with physical disabilities; and
  • Windsor, Nova Scotia with ‘Local Farms to Local Tables’ – The oldest agricultural fair in North America is working on a kitchen upgrade to help food get from local farms to local tables.
“We were humbled by the amount of creativity, passion and community spirit we saw from every individual and group that participated in ‘Here’s to Hometowns,’” says Loralee Orr, Marketing Communications Leader at Corteva Agriscience™, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont. “Pioneer is deeply invested in the communities we serve and proud to support each of the winning projects, so they can grow, flourish and positively impact lives.”
