Ontario pork producers are being urged to reassess their biosecurity protocols following an increase in Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) and Porcine Deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) cases. The latest data reveals 15 new cases of PEDv and 11 cases of PDCoV in the province.
For producers shipping hogs to Manitoba, these developments highlight the importance of reinforcing biosecurity measures to minimize disease spread. Enhanced transport sanitation, controlled site access, and strict herd health monitoring are key considerations in mitigating risks.
Tracking the Spread: Manitoba Testing Update
While Alberta and Saskatchewan have not reported any environmental positives, Manitoba continues to monitor high-traffic areas closely. As of January 24, 2025, a total of 56,657 samples have been submitted for PED testing from 21 high-traffic sites, with nine sites testing positive for PED. These findings underscore the ongoing need for vigilance and preventive strategies.
