Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host a pasture management field day on Wednesday, July 10. This pasture site is 200 acres of open mixed-species pasture and forested grazing lands that offers plenty of discussion points for pasture management.
"This field day will cover the basics of pasture management," says Russ Euken, extension beef specialist. "After 3 years of extended drought and short pastures for grazing, we will cover grazing management with surplus forage, establishing new pastures, renovating existing pastures, and fertility options to help maintain pastures."
In addition, this field day will allow for on-site weed identification and control options. Linda Cline, Webster County Extension coordinator also mentions "we will have NRCS staff present to discuss available programs that can assist producers with forage seedings, interseeding, brush management, stream crossings, shelterbelts, livestock watering systems, prescribed grazing, and fencing."
