Prices received by Michigan farmers for the full month of February 2017 are listed in the table below.
Some Michigan highlights were: February corn, at $3.52 per bushel, increased $0.07 from January and decreased $0.19 from last year; February soybeans, at $10.00 per bushel, increased $0.22 from la st month and increased $1.41 from last year; February wheat, at $4.25 per bushel, increased $0.16 from January and decreased $1.33 from last year; February milk, at $17.50 per cwt., decreased $0.60 from last month, and increased $2.70 from last year. The February Prices Received Index (Agricultural Production), at 91.7, increased 6.1 percent from January 2017. At 86.6, the Crop Production Index increased 10 percent. At 96.1, the Livestock Production Index decreased 0.5 percent. Producers received higher pr ices for lettuce, hogs, cattle, and oranges but lower prices for market eggs, milk, broilers, and onions. Compared with a year earlier, the Prices Received Index is down 0.9 percent.
The Crop Production Index increased 3.5 percent but the Livestock Product ion Index declined 3.2 percent. In addition to prices, the indexes are influenced by the monthly mix of commodities producers market. Increased monthly movement of cattle, milk, and broilers offset the decreased marketing of soybeans, corn, and cotton. The Food Commodities Index, at 96.8, increased 3.4 percent from the previous month but is down 0.7 percent from February 2016.
