MB Beef & Forage Week Starts January 13

Jan 06, 2020
Manitoba Beef and Forage Week gets underway on January 13th.

A range of topics will be discussed as producers prepare for the upcoming year.

Tim Clarke with Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development talked about the feed shortage facing producers.

"There's a lot of feed grains and off-quality feeds being used this winter to supplement the low volumes of forage that were harvested this year," he said. "There's a hay shortage basically, so more straw got baled up than most years and now a lot of off-quality feeds and alternative feeds such as distillers dried grains which come from ethanol plants, are being used as well as grain screenings, feed grains, off-quality grains are being used more in livestock rations as a consequence of the feed shortage."

Beef and Forage Week is a joint effort between Manitoba Beef Producers, Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association, and Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development.
