MB Ag Museum Holds Harvest Fun Day

Sep 17, 2019
The Manitoba Agricultural Museum held a Harvest Fun Day yesterday in Austin.

Anaïs Biernat is the Executive Director of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum. She explains what went on yesterday.

"It's a part of Manitoba Open Farm Day which is a province-wide operation to connect Manitobans with farmers," says Biernat. "For us, it's really about representing the museum and the heritage of farming for Manitoba."

The day was jam-packed with activities including a vendors market, homemade butter making, a corn on the cob eating competition, and threshing demonstrations.

Biernat talks about the attendance of the Harvest Fun Day.

"It was a fairly quiet day, but pretty good for our first event," says Biernat. "This is our first time doing the event this way, and we got some good feedback. "

Open Farm Day had 55 sites open around the province. Biernat says This was the first time that the museum has tried out an event like this.

"We always have been part of Manitoba Open Farm Day, so for sure we want to continue to be a part of it. This format seems to be fitting what people are expecting when they come here," says Biernat. "Even though we didn't necessarily have the turnout we were expecting, people were very happy here today, and that's a good sign for the future."
