Manure Irrigation Study Continues

Nov 17, 2014

Transport of manure to fields through irrigation methods has been under extreme scrutiny for the last few years in Wisconsin.  As another manure land-application technology, it is appealing to producers for many reasons.  This includes potential reduction in hauling costs, less road traffic and increased nutrient efficiency due to application throughout the growing season.

UW-Extension Manure Management Systems Specialist Becky Larson and partners are currently assessing all potential impacts to the environment, the public, producers and agriculture industry when utilizing center-pivot and traveling gun irrigation systems for manure application.  To learn more about the study, please read Manure Irrigation Study Continues in the November 2014 Wisconsin Agriculturist’s Dairy Team column.
