Manitoba Pork Urges Agriculture Ministers to Prioritize CUSMA Review

Sep 29, 2025

Cam Dahl, General Manager of Manitoba Pork, is calling on Canada’s agriculture ministers to make the upcoming statutory review and potential renegotiation of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) their top priority.

Dahl says protecting the integrated North American market is essential for both producers and consumers, stressing that political rhetoric must be set aside in favor of cooperation with U.S. allies.

Bluster and rhetoric coming from north of the border isn’t always helpful,” Dahl explains. “We have considerable allies in the U.S. — from governors to state legislators to industry leaders like Iowa Pork and the Farm Bureau — who understand the importance of trade with Canada. We need to work closely with them to influence Washington policymakers.”

Dahl highlighted a recent visit to Iowa with Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn, noting the warm reception from U.S. leaders who recognize the mutual benefits of free trade.

As the review approaches, Dahl says the focus should remain on preserving the integrated market that supports economic growth on both sides of the border.

To borrow a line from medicine,” Dahl adds, “the goal should be simple: do no harm.”
