Hursh: making it easier to apply for foreign workers

Oct 20, 2025

Foreign workers are a critical source of labour for many farms, but the application process and the program requirements are complicated.

The Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council is offering a training program to help farms navigate the process.

The training program is meant to help farms select the right Temporary Foreign Workers Program stream and understand the key requirements including how to submit and complete the necessary application.

The program is designed for those applying for the first time who may feel overwhelmed, as well as those who have relied on consultants and want more control over the process. It’s also important for employers to understand their obligations.

Previously, the training was for four weeks, but that has been expanded to six weeks with 90-minute weekly on-line sessions. If you can’t attend the live sessions, recordings are available. Two training session cohorts are still available before the end of the calendar year. The cost of the training is $2,500. A 30-minute information session to meet the team, preview the course and answer questions is scheduled for October 22.
