Hi-A Corn Field Day set July 7 in Georgetown

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will hold the Hi-A Corn Field Day on July 7 in Georgetown. The event will showcase a new variety of colored corn developed by Texas A&M AgriLife Research.

The free event will take place from 2-4 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office in Williamson County, 100 Wilco Way, Room HR108.

Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, SARE, program information will also be presented, and there will be an opportunity to visit the Georgetown plot and sample fresh Hi-A corn.

The field day offers a unique opportunity to learn about the research and findings of Hi-A corn. The Hi-A corn topics and speakers will include:

• Breeding and Genetics for High Antioxidants and Anthocyanins, Wenwei Xu, Ph.D., AgriLife Research corn breeder, Lubbock.
• Granger Trial Plot Results, Kate Hajda, AgriLife Extension horticulturist, Williamson County.
• Opportunities for Organic Corn in Texas, Bob Whitney, AgriLife Extension organic program specialist, Stephenville.
• Nutritional Benefits of Hi-A Corn, Katie Sindac, AgriLife Extension family and community health agent, Williamson County.
