The a ll grade hay price from all markets increased $ 9 .00 this week compared to the previous report . An i ncreased volume of prime hay supported the overall hay price this week . The data collected is from markets in Wisconsin and nearby Midwestern states.
For Nebraska , alfalfa hay sold steady on a light test of prices. Demand for dairy quality hay increased this week. Some third crop hay is being harvested in the state.
For Iowa , it has been a tough year for farmers to ma ke quality hay . Prime quality hay prices have decreased compared to previous years, even though there is limited tons available.
In Sou th Dakota , very good demand for prime quality hay with limited supp lies . Overall hay market is steady with limited sales reported. Third crop is beginning with the hope to make some prime quality hay. With good hay supplies and a large grain crop growing , buyers are not willing to pay growers current asking prices for hay.
For Missouri, there is an abundance of hay available and pastures hav e been good this summer as a result of the wet weather. This results in a weak demand for hay at auctions .
In Southwest Minnesota, a steady hay volume compared to the last re port with steady prices . There is a lack of dairy quality hay available at the market .
For Illinois, the st ate report has not been posted for this month at this time. Prices were steady at the Arthur site for alfalfa hay and wheat straw price was strong. Overall trading wa s active with good demand, for heavy offerings.
In Wisconsin , hay prices were steady with a good volume available for sale . There is a n abundant supply of lower quality hay with limited sales . Dairy quality (prime) hay continues to fetch a good price, with limited availability . The Midwest straw market was slightly weaker this past week .
Harvest of small grains is underway and straw supply is good . Small square bale straw was st eady ; with an average price of over $ 3 . 4 0 a bale (range of $ 1 . 5 0 to $6.00) . L arge square bale straw price was slightly weaker with an average price of $ 3 3 . 0 0 per bale (range of $ 25 .00 to $ 5 1 .00); and large round bale straw followed suit ; with a price of $ 34 .00 per bale ( range of $ 27 .00 - $5 5 .00 per bale ) .
