Max Miller Backs Farmers with Natural Colorant Bill

U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) has introduced the Harvest to Hue Act, a significant piece of legislation aimed at empowering American farmers to lead the shift towards natural food color additives in the national food supply.

This bill follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s April 22 announcement of a nationwide transition to natural food color additives, part of the broader Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative.

The Harvest to Hue Act aims to create new market opportunities, drive agricultural innovation, and ensure consumers have access to safe, affordable, and natural food products.

“Our farmers are the backbone of our nation. By empowering our farmers, we are investing in the future of American agriculture and ensuring healthier choices for American families," said Congressman Miller.

"The Harvest to Hue Act harnesses their strength and current innovation efforts to meet growing consumer demand for natural products while reinforcing the integrity and safety of America's food supply. This is a win for farmers, a win for public health, and a win for America."

The Harvest to Hue Act will:

  • Direct the Secretary of Agriculture to enhance USDA efforts that enable U.S. farmers to grow, produce, and harvest agricultural goods for use as natural color additives;
  • Promote collaboration between federal agencies, farmers, and food industry partners to expand production capacity;
  • Focus USDA research initiatives to support the development of natural colorant resources derived from agriculture.
