OTTAWA – Today, the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, launched the Recognized Employer Pilot (REP) under the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program. REP is a three-year initiative that will help to address labour shortages and reduce the administrative burden for repeat employers participating in the program who demonstrate a history of complying with program requirements.
FVGC Executive Director, Rebecca Lee expressed her satisfaction with this announcement, “Today's announcement is a testament to the collective efforts and relentless advocacy of the FVGC community. We have long emphasized the importance of recognizing employers with a proven track record within the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. The Recognized Employer Pilot promises to alleviate many administrative challenges, allowing growers to focus on what they do best - feeding our nation."
Beth Connery, the FVGC National Labour Chair, emphasized, “It's paramount that we prioritize the protection and well-being of international farm workers who play a critical role in our industry. The Canadian fruit and vegetable sector is committed to diligently complying with labour standards and appreciates the steps the Government has taken to ensure that international workers are protected.”
