Equestrian Canada Recognizes Alison Martin As Dressage Volunteer Of The Month For August
Sep 13, 2017
Equestrian Canada (EC) is delighted to announce Alison Martin has been chosen to receive the August 2017 Dressage Volunteer of the Month Award.

An active member in the dressage community for several decades, Alison has been the Vice President of Dressage BC since 2014 and is responsible for marketing the organization through social media.

Alison’s creativity helped grow the online community from 200 Facebook followers to over 1,500 and the reach of her posts engages approximately 2,000 people per month. This has helped solidify and grow the brand of Dressage BC as a non-profit organization.

Alison also remains involved in the dressage community of Southlands Riding Club in Vancouver, BC. She sits on the Board of Directors and has been active on many committees to organize and promote dressage shows and clinics.

In addition, Alison has been successful in securing sponsorship from many different companies for dressage shows in the lower mainland. She developed an awards program with Arista Equestrian clothing in 2012 based on scores from multiple competitions throughout the season. Alison was also instrumental in developing the Blue Heron series for young horses, which is offered annually at the BC Dressage Championships as a softer alternative over FEI tests for up-and-coming horses.

At the national level, one of Alison’s greatest accomplishments was being selected in 2014 to be the Chef d'Équipe for the 2015 Pan Am Games. In this vital role, Alison helped prepare and support the Canadian Dressage Team, that ultimately brought home the Team Silver Medal.

EC wishes to thank Alison for her ongoing support and dedication to the growth of dressage. It is the generosity of spirit and volunteerism that keeps the sport of dressage thriving.

If you know of a volunteer who deserves recognition, nominations are quick and easy through the EC website. Nominations for the award are accepted until the 20th day of each month, making September 20th the next deadline to submit the name of a volunteer who has made a difference to the sport of dressage. Questions and comments on the Dressage Volunteer of the Month Award can be directed to Christine Peters at cpeters@equestrian.ca
