Egg Farmers of Canada responds to Food Banks Canada’s special COVID-19 appeal for funds

Apr 07, 2020
Ottawa – Egg Farmers of Canada announced a $25,000 donation to Food Banks Canada as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a deep impact on Canadians across the country.

Amid this crisis, Food Banks Canada launched a special appeal for funds to ensure vulnerable Canadians continue to receive vital support and nutritious food during these unprecedented times. As longstanding supporters of food banks across the country and their mission to relieve hunger today and prevent it tomorrow, egg farmers responded to the call.

“Food Banks Canada and their dedicated team of staff and volunteers play a critical role in our communities,” said Roger Pelissero, Chair of Egg Farmers of Canada. “We know these are challenging times for all Canadians, with the most vulnerable communities impacted the most. We believe it is crucial now more than ever to rally around our friends, neighbours and fellow Canadians with our support.”

Food banks across the country are reporting an increase in demand over the past weeks, as they face drastic declines in the number of volunteers and have to adapt their operations in light of COVID-19. These funds will support food banks’ wide-reaching efforts as they continue to respond to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in our communities.

“Providing food to those in need can be difficult at the best of times. With the COVID-19 pandemic upon us, we are anticipating record numbers of people who will require our help,” said Chris Hatch, Chief Executive Officer of Food Banks Canada. “Contributions such as the one made by Egg Farmers of Canada will help ensure that food banks can continue their critical work.”
