Flax area increased to 619,800 acres from March intentions of just 448,000, which would have been the lowest since 1949. Instead, flax acres are now the highest since 2022 at 778,900 acres.
At 359,600 acres, mustard acres climbed from March intentions of just 289,000 but remain 40.6% below the 606,300 acres planted in 2024. Canary area increased to 319,400 acres from 231,700 in March and is now above 290,900 in 2024.
StatsCan reported chickpea acres at 541,000 acres, compared to intentions of 453,000 and last year’s 480,500. Dry bean acres increased to 382,100 from the March estimate of 357,200 but remain down from 402,300 a year ago.
Sunflower acres jumped to 73,900 acres from just 58,500 in March and are now above the 60,000 planted last year.
